| Chewton Film Society in partnership with Rural Australians for Refugees presents a film night during Australian Refugee Week. Le Havre to be shown on Sunday 19 June 2022 at 3 pm, at Chewton Senior Citizens’ Centre at 201 Main Road/Pyrenees Highway, Chewton, Victoria.. Car park access off Mount Street. Both organisations believe it is important for all Australians to support refugees who arrive in Australia seeking asylum from war-ravaged and poverty-stricken parts of the world. We fundamentally believe that Australia remains a lucky country and it is important to help those in need. The evening will begin with two short films: a fun animated short and a thought provoking video from Julian Burnside AO QC, followed by the main feature film.Le Havre, the feature film, is a 2011 comedy-drama film produced, written, and directed by Aki Kaurismäki and starring André Wilms, Kati Outinen, Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Blondin Miguel. It tells the story of a shoe shiner who tries to save an illegal immigrant child in the French port city Le Havre. After the screening, guests are invited to stay and enjoy supper and discuss the films and meet new people. 100% of ticket sales will go directly to support refugees recently released from hotel detention in Melbourne. Chewton Film Society is absorbing all costs related to the screening, and Rural Australians for Refugees are providing supper.
